Description: Garam Masala is a traditional Indian spice blend made from a carefully selected combination of whole dried seeds and spices. Each spice plant has unique characteristics: cumin seeds grow 30–50 cm tall with slender, branching stems and pinnate leaves; coriander is an annual herb reaching 50–100 cm with finely divided green leaves and clusters of small white flowers; black pepper is a climbing vine producing small drupes; cloves are the unopened flower buds of a tropical evergreen tree; cinnamon is harvested from the inner bark of medium-sized tropical trees; cardamom comes from perennial herbaceous plants with tall stalks and clusters of green pods; and nutmeg comes from evergreen trees producing oval fruit with seeds inside. These individual spices are grown in specific regions suited to their climate, soil, and seasonal requirements before harvest.
The spices are harvested when fully mature to capture maximum aroma, colour, and flavour. Seeds, buds, barks, and pods are cleaned to remove debris and dried using controlled low-temperature methods to preserve their natural oils, texture, and colour. Once dried, the individual components are finely ground and blended into a uniform powder, ensuring consistency in texture, aroma, and spice balance across every batch. The finished Garam Masala is a warm brown powder with a fragrant, complex aroma reflecting the combination of all the spices.
The blended powder is carefully sifted and mixed to maintain uniformity, providing a visually consistent and aromatic spice mix. The texture is smooth yet slightly granular, making it easy to measure, store, and blend into various culinary preparations. The balanced proportion of warming spices ensures it performs well in multiple cooking styles while retaining the characteristic warmth and aroma of traditional Indian Garam Masala.
Uses: Garam Masala is used in curries, stews, soups, rice dishes, marinades, vegetable preparations, seasoning blends, and spice rubs. It is also suitable for culinary experimentation, homemade masala mixes, infused oils, and traditional cooking applications where a fragrant, warm spice blend is desired to enhance flavour, aroma, and colour.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container.
