Botanical Name: Cananga odorata

Country of Origin: Product of Malaysia

English Name: Ylang Ylang Oil

French Name: Huile Essentielle d’Ylang-Ylang

Also Known As: Cananga Oil

Part Used: Fresh flowers of Cananga odorata

Description: Ylang Ylang Oil is steam-distilled from the freshly harvested flowers of Cananga odorata, a tropical evergreen tree native to Southeast Asia and widely cultivated in regions such as Madagascar, Comoros, and parts of the Pacific. The tree typically grows between 10 and 20 metres tall, producing long, drooping branches with glossy green leaves. Its distinctive star-shaped flowers begin pale green and gradually turn bright yellow as they mature, releasing a naturally rich floral aroma. Flower harvesting is carried out early in the day when fragrance intensity is highest, ensuring consistent botanical quality.

After collection, the fresh blossoms are immediately steam-distilled to extract the aromatic oil. This gentle distillation process preserves the flower’s natural scent profile and produces a clear to pale yellow essential oil with a smooth, free-flowing texture. The oil maintains the botanical identity of Cananga odorata while offering a stable liquid form suitable for blending and formulation.

The finished Ylang Ylang Oil displays a light yellow to golden hue and a naturally floral aroma. Its liquid consistency allows for easy measuring and mixing, making it suitable for a wide range of applications requiring botanical oils.

Uses: Ylang Ylang Oil is commonly used in cosmetic formulations, perfumes, soaps, lotions, bath products, massage oils, and aromatherapy-style applications where floral oils are desired. It is also suitable for candle making, craft projects, diffuser blends, and educational collections demonstrating tropical flowering plants and essential oil extraction. The liquid format supports precise portioning, smooth blending with carrier oils or other botanicals, and versatile use in both home and professional formulation environments, offering consistent quality and recognizable floral characteristics.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container.
