Botanical Name: Betonica officinalis

Origin: Poland

English Name: Wood Betony Herb C/S

French Name: Bétoine Officinale Coupée

Also Known As: Common Betony, Bishop’s Wort

Part Used: Aerial parts (leaves, stems, and flowering tops) of Betonica officinalis

Description: Wood Betony Herb C/S is prepared from the aerial parts of Betonica officinalis, a perennial flowering plant native to Europe and western Asia and widely cultivated in temperate regions worldwide. The plant typically grows between 30 and 60 centimetres tall, producing upright square stems with softly textured, oval-shaped green leaves arranged in opposite pairs. During late spring and summer, dense spikes of small purple to pink flowers appear at the tops of the stems, contributing to the plant’s recognizable appearance. Harvesting takes place when the herb is in full growth to ensure consistent colour, texture, and botanical quality.

After harvesting, the herb is carefully cleaned to remove natural debris. Drying is performed using controlled air or low-temperature methods to preserve the natural green tones and delicate plant structure. Once dried, the material is cut and sifted into uniform fragments, producing lightweight, free-flowing pieces that include visible leaf sections, fine stems, and occasional flower parts. This process maintains the botanical identity of Betonica officinalis while creating a consistent cut suitable for blending and infusion.

The finished Wood Betony Herb C/S displays a muted green to light brown colour with mixed leaf and stem pieces and a crisp texture. The material remains stable during storage, retaining its natural appearance and mild herbaceous aroma. The cut and sifted format allows for easy handling, accurate measuring, and uniform blending across applications.

Uses: Wood Betony Herb C/S is commonly used in tea-style infusions, herbal blends, and botanical preparations where dried aerial plant material is preferred. It is also suitable for cosmetic formulations, bath products, botanical sachets, craft projects, and educational collections demonstrating perennial herb morphology and flowering plant structure. The cut and sifted format allows for precise portioning, easy blending with other botanicals, and versatile use in both home and professional environments, offering consistent quality and visually identifiable plant fragments.

Storage: Preserve in a sealed container, kept in a cool and dark location
