Description: Shatavari Whole is harvested from the mature roots of Asparagus racemosus, a climbing perennial plant native to India and parts of Southeast Asia. The plant grows in tropical and subtropical regions, thriving in sandy or rocky soils, and produces long, slender climbing stems that can reach up to 1–2 metres in length. It features fine, needle-like green leaves and small white flowers that bloom during warmer seasons, followed by round red berries. Beneath the soil, clusters of elongated, tuberous roots develop, which are harvested once fully developed.
The roots grow in bunches and are cylindrical, tapering toward the ends, with a smooth outer surface and pale cream to light beige colouring. Harvesting takes place when the roots have reached full size and firmness. Selection focuses on intact, well-formed roots that maintain their natural length, thickness, and structure, ensuring visual consistency and botanical authenticity.
After harvesting, the roots are carefully washed to remove soil and natural debris. Drying is carried out using controlled air or low-temperature methods to stabilise moisture while preserving the roots’ colour, surface texture, and fibrous interior. Once dried, the whole roots become lightweight yet firm, retaining their elongated shape and subtle natural ridges.
The finished Shatavari Whole consists of full-length dried root pieces with smooth exteriors and a dense internal structure. The roots display consistent pale tones and natural curvature, offering a visually identifiable botanical product. Their whole-root format supports ease of handling, storage stability, and versatility across multiple applications.
Uses: Shatavari Whole is commonly used in tea-style infusions and traditional herbal blends where intact root pieces are preferred for visual presentation and gradual extraction. The whole roots are suitable for decoctions, soaking preparations, and custom botanical formulations. They are also used in cosmetic and personal care products such as infused oils, bath blends, and handcrafted soaps. In addition, Shatavari roots are incorporated into craft projects, decorative displays, and educational botanical collections that showcase root structure and plant morphology. The whole format allows for flexible portioning and is ideal for manufacturers and formulators who require identifiable, unprocessed dried roots for blending, grinding, or further preparation.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
