Botanical Name: Satureja hortensis L.

Country Of Origin: Asia

English Name: Savory Leaves C/S

French Name: Feuilles de Sarriette Coupées

Also Known As: Cut and Sifted Savory Leaves, Summer Savory, Satureja Herb, Garden Savory

Part Used: Leaves of Satureja hortensis L.

Description: Savory Leaves C/S are produces from the dried leaves of Satureja hortensis L., an aromatic annual herb in the Lamiaceae family. Native to the Mediterranean region, this herb thrives in well-drained soils with full sunlight and develops slender, branching stems adorned with small, narrow, dark green leaves. Tiny pale lilac or white flowers appear along the stems during the flowering season, indicating that the leaves have reached full aromatic and structural maturity, ideal for harvesting.

Leaves are harvested at their peak maturity to preserve natural texture, colour, and aroma. The fully grown leaves are small, elongated, and slightly glossy, with distinct veins and a firm structure. Only healthy, intact leaves are collected for cut-and-sifted processing, ensuring the preservation of their natural botanical identity and visual consistency for handling and storage.

After collection is done, the leaves are gently cleaned to remove stems, dust, and other debris. Drying is carried out using controlled air or low-temperature methods, stabilising moisture while maintaining the leaves’ deep green colour, surface texture, and aromatic profile. Once dried, the leaves are cut and sifted into uniform pieces, resulting in a free flowing, visually consistent product that retains the plant’s characteristic structure.

The finished Savory Leaves C/S product consists of firm, cut leaf fragments with rich green colouring and clearly visible vein patterns. The cut-and-sifted format offers the easy handling, accurate measurement, and consistent blending, while retaining the natural aroma and visual qualities of Satureja hortensis L. leaves.

Uses: Savory Leaves C/S are used in culinary applications such as seasoning blends, soups, stews, marinades, and herb mixes where cut leaf fragments are preferred. They are suitable for tea-style infusions, aromatic herbal blends, and decorative presentations. The cut leaves are also used in craft projects, educational botanical collections, and formulation processes requiring uniform, identifiable dried leaf pieces.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place in a sealed container.
