Description: Black Pepper Powder is produced from the dried fruit of Piper nigrum, a perennial climbing vine in the Piperaceae family, native to the tropical regions of South India and widely cultivated across Southeast Asia. The plant grows with long, woody vines supported by trellises or trees, producing glossy green leaves and small, spike-like clusters of flowers. The berries, or peppercorns, develop along these spikes and transition from green to red as they mature. Harvesting occurs when the berries reach peak ripeness, retaining their firm texture and rich, dark colour, which is essential for producing uniform black pepper powder.
Freshly harvested peppercorns are carefully cleaned to remove stems, leaves, and debris. They are then dried under controlled conditions, during which the outer skin darkens to a deep black and the internal seed hardens while preserving its aromatic compounds. Drying ensures the berries maintain their structural integrity and prevents premature loss of flavour and colour.
Once dried, the peppercorns are milled into a fine, free-flowing powder. The resulting Black Pepper Powder is dark brown to black in colour, with a slightly coarse to smooth texture depending on the milling process. The powder retains the natural pungent aroma and flavour profile of black pepper while providing uniformity for culinary and formulation applications. Its consistent appearance and texture make it suitable for blending, packaging, and precise measurement.
Uses: Black Pepper Powder offers versatility across culinary, cosmetic, and creative uses. It is suitable for seasoning soups, sauces, marinades, meats, vegetables, and spice blends. In manufacturing and formulation contexts, the powder can be included for functional roles such as natural colouring, textural consistency, or flavouring components in processed foods. It is also ideal for use in educational collections and display projects that highlight dried spices and plant-derived powders.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
