Botanical Name: Citrus sinensis

Country of Origin: Egypt

English Name: Orange Peel C/S

French Name: Écorce d’Orange C/S

Also Known As: Dried Orange Peel, Citrus Peel

Part Used: Peel of the fruit of Citrus sinensis

Description: Orange Peel C/S consists of the dried, cut segments of the peel from Citrus sinensis, the sweet orange tree, an evergreen species in the Rutaceae family. The tree is cultivated in subtropical and Mediterranean climates where warm temperatures, seasonal rainfall, and well-drained soils support healthy growth. The peel forms the outer layer of the fruit, exhibiting a bright orange colour when fully ripe, with a firm, slightly textured surface. The tree produces glossy green leaves, fragrant flowers, and round fruit, from which the peel is collected after maturation.

The peels are harvested once the fruit reaches full maturity and the outer skin has developed a firm texture and vibrant colour. After harvesting, the peels are separated from the fruit, cleaned to remove any pulp or impurities, and cut into uniform pieces to facilitate drying and subsequent use. This ensures consistent size and quality across the final product.

Following cleaning and cutting, the peels are dried using controlled air-drying or low-temperature drying methods. This process removes moisture gradually while preserving the natural colour, aromatic oils, and structural integrity of the peel. The dried peels retain a firm, slightly leathery texture and display a characteristic bright orange hue, suitable for storage and extended use.

Dried Orange Peel C/S is visually consistent, aromatic, and stable, making it suitable for a variety of culinary and formulation purposes. The cut and dried form allows for easy infusion, blending, or incorporation into recipes and manufacturing processes, while maintaining its natural citrus properties and functional usability.

Uses: Orange Peel C/S is commonly used in culinary applications such as flavouring baked goods, desserts, syrups, sauces, and confectionery products. It is also suitable for tea-style infusions, where the dried peel is steeped in hot water to impart a citrus aroma. In cosmetic and personal care formulation, it may be included in soaps, bath products, lotions, and decorative skincare items. Additional uses include crafting, potpourri blends, visual displays, and educational or botanical reference collections focusing on citrus materials and dried fruit components.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
