Botanical Name: Silybum marianum

Country of Origin: Tunisia

English Name: Milk Thistle Herb Powder

French Name: Poudre de Chardon-Marie

Also Known As: Silybum Herb Powder, Dried Milk Thistle Powder, Milk Thistle Leaf Powder

Part Used: Aerial parts (leaves and flowering tops) of Silybum marianum

Description: Milk Thistle is an annual or biennial herb native to the Mediterranean region, typically growing 60–150 cm tall with thick, spiny stems and large lobed leaves marked with distinctive white marbling. The plant produces large purple thistle flowers during summer. The aerial parts are harvested at peak growth to preserve their natural colour, texture, and botanical structure before processing into a fine powder.

The leaves are firm and slightly spiny along the edges, with a mild earthy aroma. After drying, they retain their natural colour and structural integrity, and the dried herb is milled into a uniform, fine powder. The powder maintains the identifiable botanical characteristics of the leaves and flowers while providing a convenient form for blending, storage, and applications.

After harvesting, the aerial parts are cleaned to remove dust, stems, and extraneous material. They are dried using controlled low-temperature methods to preserve colour, texture, and natural characteristics. Once fully dried, the herb is milled and sieved to produce a clean, free-flowing powder suitable for multiple applications.

Uses: Milk Thistle Herb Powder is used in tea-style infusions, herbal and botanical blends, culinary preparations, craft projects, cosmetic formulations, decorative displays, and educational herb collections. Its fine texture allows it to blend evenly into dry mixes, infused preparations, and creative applications where natural leaf and floral colour, texture, and botanical authenticity are desired.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
