English Name: Mandrake Root C/S
French Name: Racine de Mandragore Coupée et Tamisée
Also Known As: Cut Mandrake Root, Dried Mandrake Root Pieces, Mandrake Root C/S, Podophyllum peltatum Root
Part Used: Roots of Podophyllum peltatum
Description: Mandrake is a low-growing perennial herb native to eastern North America, forming a basal rosette of broad, dark green leaves that lie close to the soil surface. The plant grows seasonally in spring and early summer, producing small, pale flowers at the base of the leaves, followed by round, green to yellowish fruits. Its thick, fleshy taproot develops underground and is harvested from mature plants to preserve natural colour, shape, and dense structure. The leaves are smooth, slightly lobed, and the plant emits a mild earthy aroma.
The roots are firm and dense with a light brown exterior and pale interior. After drying, they become hard and fibrous while maintaining their natural grain and irregular contours. Cut and sifted, the pieces show visible root texture and consistent sizing, preserving botanical authenticity. The dried roots maintain their characteristic earthy scent and slightly woody appearance.
After harvesting, the roots are carefully cleaned to remove soil and extraneous material. They are dried under controlled low-temperature conditions to preserve colour, texture, and structural integrity. Once fully dried, the roots are cut and sifted to remove fines and broken fragments, resulting in a clean, free-flowing botanical ingredient.
Uses: Mandrake Root C/S is used in tea-style infusions, herbal and botanical blends, craft projects, cosmetic formulations, decorative displays, and educational herb collections. The uniform cut root pieces are suitable for blending into mixtures, infused preparations, and creative applications where natural root texture, colour, and botanical authenticity are desired.
