Botanical Name: Myristica fragrans

Country Of Origin: India

English Name: Mace Whole

French Name: Macis Entier

Also Known As: Dried Mace Whole, Nutmeg Aril Whole, Mace Spice Whole, Myristica fragrans Whole Mace

Part Used: Aril (lacy covering) of Myristica fragrans

Description: Mace is the dried aril surrounding the seed of the nutmeg tree, Myristica fragrans, a tropical evergreen native to the Maluku Islands of Indonesia and cultivated in other warm regions. The tree typically grows 10–15 metres tall with glossy green leaves and small yellowish flowers. The arils are harvested when fully mature to retain their natural colour, texture, and botanical character.

The fresh arils are thin, lace-like, and flexible, turning brittle and reddish orange once dried. The dried arils maintain their natural structure, shape, and vibrant colour, making them easily identifiable and suitable for use in whole form for culinary, botanical, or decorative purposes.

After harvesting, the arils are cleaned to remove debris and extraneous material. They are dried using controlled low-temperature methods to preserve colour, texture, and integrity. Once fully dried, the arils are sorted to remove broken pieces, resulting in clean, whole mace ready for blending, storage, or creative applications.

Uses: Mace Whole is used in culinary recipes, spice blends, tea-style infusions, herbal and botanical blends, craft projects, cosmetic formulations, decorative displays, and educational herb collections. Its whole form allows it to be incorporated into preparations where natural spice appearance, aroma, and botanical authenticity are desired.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
