Description: Gentian is a hardy perennial plant that grows naturally in mountainous regions of Europe, particularly the Alps and Pyrenees. The plant can reach heights of 1 to 1.5 metres and produces large, oval-shaped deep green leaves arranged in opposite pairs along a sturdy central stem. During summer, it forms dense whorls of bright yellow, star-shaped flowers, making it a distinctive species in alpine meadows and rocky grasslands.
The mature root is thick, branched, and fibrous, often reaching significant length below the soil surface. When dried, the root pieces display a dense internal structure with a light tan to golden-brown outer surface and a pale, firm interior. The cut and sifted form highlights the coarse, woody texture of the root, giving the material a rugged, natural appearance suitable for blending and display.
The roots are harvested after several years of growth, then washed to remove soil and debris. They are sliced into sections and dried under controlled conditions to reduce moisture while preserving colour and structural integrity. Once dried, the material is cut and sifted into uniform pieces to create a consistent, clean botanical ingredient.
Uses: Gentian Root C/S is used in flavouring bitters-style culinary preparations, tea-style infusions, spice and botanical blends, aromatic craft projects, educational plant kits, decorative herb jars, and formulation work where distinctive root pieces are required for texture, visual interest, and blending consistency.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
