Botanical Name: Boswellia Carteri

Origin: Asia

English Name: Frankincense Tears

French Name: Larmes d’Encens Oliban

Hindi Name: Lobaan Ke Dane

Also Known As: Olibanum Tears, Boswellia serrata Tears, Boswellia carterii Tears, Frankincense Gum Tears, Luban Tears, Frankincense Resin Tears

Part Used: Naturally hardened resin from Boswellia species

Description: Frankincense Tears are the naturally formed resin droplets collected from several species of Boswellia, small drought-tolerant trees native to the dry regions of the Arabian Peninsula, northeastern Africa, and parts of India. These trees usually grow between 2 and 8 metres tall, with pale peeling bark and sparse clusters of narrow, leathery leaves. During the dry season, the bark is lightly scored, allowing a milky sap to seep out and gradually solidify on the trunk and branches.

The trees flourish in rocky, mineral-rich soils and withstand extreme heat and low rainfall. As the sap hardens, it transforms into translucent “tears” that range in colour from pale yellow to golden amber. The size and clarity of each tear vary naturally, giving the product a rustic and authentic botanical appearance.

After collection, the hardened resin tears are carefully gathered and cleaned to remove bark fragments and surface debris. The finished frankincense tears consist of firm, irregularly shaped pieces with a smooth, glass-like texture and a light to deep amber tone, providing a stable, visually appealing resin material for various applications.

Uses: Frankincense Tears are used in incense burning, aromatic blends, candle and soap making, botanical craft projects, resin art, decorative displays, educational kits, and creative applications where natural tree resin is valued for fragrance, form, and traditional botanical character.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container.
