Botanical Name: Illicium verum
Country of Origin: Vietnam
Description: Anise Star Whole is derived from the dried star-shaped fruits of Illicium verum, an evergreen tree commonly cultivated in regions of Southeast Asia. Each fruit forms a natural star-like shape with a hard, woody texture and a deep brown colour that develops as it dries.
The production process begins with the harvest of fully matured fruits, which are cleaned and dried to reduce moisture and allow their natural colour and aroma to develop. Once dried, the whole stars are sorted for uniformity in shape, colour, and quality, with no milling or further processing applied. They remain in their intact botanical form.
Anise Star Whole is used in culinary applications that benefit from its distinctive flavour and visual appearance. It can be added to broths, stews, simmered dishes, beverage infusions, and spice blends where whole spices are preferred. Beyond cooking, the whole stars are also used in crafting, potpourri, decorative displays, and natural aromatic projects that incorporate intact plant materials for their visual and structural qualities.
Their preserved star-like shape and firm texture make them suitable for both creative and culinary uses that rely on the natural qualities of whole star anise.
