Production: Star Anise is indigenous to South Eastern China. Commercial production is limited to China and Vietnam.
Description: Star anise is a spice made from the fruit of the Chinese evergreen tree Illicium verum. It's aptly named for the star-shaped pods from which the spice seeds are harvested and has a flavor that is reminiscent of licorice.
Uses: Star anise can be used whole or ground and in both sweet and savory dishes. Use this fragrant spice whole to infuse flavor into tea, mulled wine, soup broth, and even pasta sauce.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
