Botanical Name: Calamus Draco
Country of Origin: China
Common Name: Dragon’s Blood Resin
English Name: Dragon’s Blood Chunks
French Name: Résine de Sang-de-Dragon en Morceaux
Also Known As: Dracaena cinnabari Resin, Daemonorops draco Resin, Dragon’s Blood Gum, Red Dragon Resin
Part Used: Hardened plant resin
Description: Dragon’s Blood Chunks consist of naturally hardened red resin obtained from several plant species commonly grouped under the name dragon’s blood, including Dracaena, Daemonorops, and Croton species. These plants are native to regions of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Africa, where the resin forms when sap is exposed to air and allowed to solidify.
After collection, the resin is cleaned to remove bark particles and surface debris, then allowed to fully harden into dense, brittle pieces. The resin is not subjected to heavy processing, preserving its deep red colour, glass-like fracture, and natural variation in chunk size and shape.
The finished dragon’s blood chunks range from dark red to burgundy in colour with a shiny, resinous surface. The material is firm and breaks into smaller fragments when handled, providing a visually striking botanical resin suitable for blending, storage, and creative formulation.
Uses: Dragon’s Blood Chunks are used in incense blends, resin craft projects, natural dye work, decorative jar displays, botanical collections, and educational kits. They are also suitable for cosmetic formulations and creative applications where plant-based resins are valued for their colour, texture, and distinctive natural appearance.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container.
