Also Known As: Dog Grass, Elymus repens Herb, Couch Grass C/S, Dried Couch Grass
Part Used: Dried aerial parts of Elymus repens
Description: Couch Grass, also known as Dog Grass, is obtained from the aerial parts of Elymus repens, a perennial grass native to Europe and temperate regions of Asia and North America. The plant grows with long, slender, upright stems and narrow green leaves, producing fine, fibrous runners that spread across the soil surface. The aerial parts are harvested when fully grown to capture the plant’s natural structure and uniform colour.
After harvesting, the grass is carefully cleaned to remove roots, soil, and field debris. It is then dried using controlled air-drying or low-temperature methods to reduce moisture while maintaining the natural green to light brown colour and fibrous texture of the plant. Once dried, the material may be cut and sifted to create uniform pieces suitable for blending and handling.
The finished couch grass C/S is lightweight, fibrous, and uniform in appearance, with a slightly coarse texture that preserves the botanical identity of the plant. The processed form ensures easy handling, storage, and incorporation into applications while maintaining visual and structural characteristics.
Uses: Couch Grass C/S is used in botanical craft projects, educational herb kits, decorative plant displays, and potpourri-style blends. It is also suitable for natural dye work, craft formulations, and creative applications where fibrous, leafy plant material is desired for texture and visual appeal.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in a well-sealed container.
