Country Of Origin: Brazil
Common Name: Cocoa Beans
English Name: Cacao Beans
Also Known As: Cacao Beans Whole, Theobroma cacao Beans, Raw Cocoa Beans, Dried Cacao Seeds
Part Used: Fermented and dried seeds of Theobroma cacao
Description: Cocoa Beans are obtained from the seeds of Theobroma cacao, a small evergreen tree native to tropical regions of Central and South America and now cultivated in many equatorial climates. The tree produces large pods containing rows of pale seeds surrounded by a moist pulp. These seeds are removed from the pods at harvest and prepared for fermentation and drying.
After harvesting, the beans undergo a natural fermentation process to develop their characteristic colour and surface appearance. They are then dried under controlled conditions to reduce moisture and stabilize the seeds. This sequence of fermentation and drying results in firm, brown beans with a distinct outer shell and well-formed interior structure.
The finished cocoa beans are oval in shape with a textured brown surface and a hard, dry exterior. They maintain their natural form and are uniform in size, making them suitable for handling, storage, and further processing. The whole-bean format preserves the botanical identity and visual character of the cacao seed.
Uses: Cocoa Beans are used in culinary applications such as chocolate making, roasting, grinding, baking, desserts, beverages, and confectionery preparations. Whole beans may be processed into nibs or ground into cocoa products for flavouring and formulation. They are also suitable for educational kits, botanical displays, and craft projects where whole cacao seeds are desired for visual reference and creative use.
Storage:Store in a cool, dry place in a sealed container.
