Botanical Name: Cinnamomum cassia

Country of Origin: Vietnam

Common Name: Cinnamon Chips

English Name: Cinnamon Bark Chips

Sanskrit Name: Tvak

Hindi Name: Dalchini

Ayurvedic Name: Tvak

Also Known As: Cinnamon Bark Chips, Cut Cinnamon Bark, Broken Cinnamon Bark, Cinnamomum verum Chips

Part Used: Dried inner bark of Cinnamomum verum

Description: Cinnamon Chips are produced from the inner bark of Cinnamomum verum, an evergreen tree native to Sri Lanka and cultivated in other tropical regions. The bark is harvested from mature branches, where the inner layer develops its characteristic thin structure and natural surface. After removal, the bark is prepared for drying and cutting.

Once harvested, the bark is cleaned and dried using controlled air-drying methods to reduce moisture while maintaining its natural colour and woody texture. After drying, the bark is cut into small, irregular chip-sized pieces. This process creates uniform, manageable fragments while preserving the natural layered structure of the bark.

The finished chips range from light to medium brown in colour and have a firm, dry texture with visible layers. The cut format provides increased surface area while maintaining the natural appearance of the bark. Cinnamon Chips are stable, easy to handle, and suitable for applications that require smaller bark pieces rather than whole quills.

Uses: Cinnamon Chips are used in culinary preparations such as beverages, desserts, sauces, and spice blends where cut bark pieces are preferred. They are commonly used in flavouring liquids, simmered preparations, and infusion-style applications that benefit from evenly sized bark fragments. Cinnamon Chips are also suitable for decorative spice jars, potpourri-style blends, and botanical craft projects where natural bark texture and appearance are desired.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
