Description: Cardamom Seed Powder is made from the inner seeds of Elettaria cardamomum, a perennial plant native to the tropical forests of southern India and cultivated across similar climates. The plant grows tall leafy stems and produces small green pods that contain numerous dark aromatic seeds. When ground, the seeds yield a fine, free-flowing powder with a light to medium brown colour and a naturally fragrant aroma characteristic of cardamom.
The seeds develop inside protective pods and are known for their compact size and smooth surface. In powdered form, the material reflects the seed’s natural qualities, offering a uniform texture that disperses easily. The absence of pod material results in a cleaner appearance and consistent aroma profile, making the powder suitable for applications that require refined spice texture and even distribution.
Mature cardamom pods are harvested and dried, after which the pods are opened and the seeds separated. The seeds are further cleaned to remove husk fragments and then dried to a stable moisture level. Once prepared, the seeds are finely milled and sifted to achieve a consistent particle size. This process produces a smooth, stable powder suitable for blending into a wide range of formulations.
Uses: Cardamom Seed Powder is used in culinary preparations such as baked goods, desserts, beverages, spice blends, sauces, and savoury dishes where a finely ground aromatic spice is desired. It is also suitable for confectionery, flavouring mixes, and dry seasoning formulations. In addition, the powder can be incorporated into botanical craft projects and educational spice kits where a refined, seed-based spice powder is preferred.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
