Description: Black Musli is a tuberous perennial herb, featuring either short or elongated roots that bear an abundance of fleshy lateral roots. Its leaves can be either sessile or petiolate, taking on a linear or lanceolate shape, with tips that occasionally root. This herb has a compact stature and its leaves resemble those of a palm, measuring 8-18 inches in length with ridges spanning 1-2 inches in width. The floral stalk emerges from the ground, sporting a yellow hue. The fruits, measuring approximately 0.5 inches in length, originate from the inferior tricarpellary syncarpous ovary. Inside these fruits lie black, shiny seeds that are about 30 mm long, deeply textured in wavy segments. Black Musli blooms with its flowers during the months of June to August, and in the winter, it sheds its leaves, leaving the root in the ground. This herb is commonly found in forested areas and has been used for ages as a traditional folk medicine.
