Botanical Name: Citrus Bergamia

Country of OriginItaly

Also Known As: Bergamot Essential Oil, Citrus bergamia Peel Oil, Bergamot Fruit Oil

Part Used: Cold-pressed or steam-distilled peel of Citrus bergamia

Description: Bergamot Oil is obtained from the peel of Citrus bergamia, a citrus fruit cultivated mainly in Mediterranean regions. The fruit develops a thick, aromatic rind that contains natural oil glands. After harvesting, the peel is separated from the fruit, washed to remove surface debris, and processed through cold-pressing or steam distillation to release the aromatic oil. The resulting material is a clear to pale yellow essential oil with a fresh citrus aroma characteristic of the natural peel.

Citrus bergamia forms small, round to slightly pear-shaped fruits with a textured rind containing high concentrations of aromatic compounds. The peel is the primary source of the oil, and once extracted, the resulting product retains the fruit’s natural aromatic profile. The oil reflects the properties of the raw peel material and is valued for its bright, citrus-forward scent in flavouring and fragrance work.

The separated peel is cleaned and prepared, then pressed or distilled using controlled methods to collect the volatile oil. The extracted oil is filtered to remove natural residues, resulting in a pure essential oil.

Uses: Bergamot Oil is used in culinary applications in very small amounts to flavour teas, baked goods, confectionery, and specialty beverages. It is also incorporated into soap making, candle crafting, potpourri mixtures, perfumes, and other aromatic or decorative projects where a natural citrus scent is desired.

Storage: In an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
