Botanical Name: Hordeum Vulgare

Country of Origin: Germany

Also Known As: Barley Leaf Powder, Hordeum vulgare Grass Powder, Young Barley Grass Powder

Part Used: Young aerial grass blades of Hordeum vulgare, finely milled into powder

Description: Barley Grass Powder is produced from the young, tender leaves of Hordeum vulgare, a cereal grass widely cultivated in temperate regions around the world. The powder typically appears in shades of vibrant to muted green and carries a natural, fresh grassy aroma. Once milled, the leaves form a smooth, fine powder with a uniform texture suitable for dry blending and botanical formulations. The material retains much of the colour and plant structure of the original grass, making it a visually appealing ingredient for creative and craft-based uses.

Hordeum vulgare grows as an annual grass, reaching heights of 60–120 cm, with long, slender leaves and upright stems. The young grass stage is characterised by soft, flexible blades and a bright green colour before the plant develops its mature grain heads. When harvested and processed into powder, the grass provides a plant-derived material that integrates easily into craft mixtures, natural pigment projects, and educational botanical applications.

Fresh young grass blades are harvested during early growth, when their colour and structural qualities are at their peak. The material is cleaned to remove natural field debris and then dried under controlled warm-air or low-temperature conditions to help retain its green tone and reduce moisture content. Once fully dried, the grass is mechanically milled into a fine powder and further sifted to achieve uniform granulation. This creates a stable, free-flowing botanical powder composed solely of dried grass leaves.

Uses: Barley Grass Powder is used in botanical craft preparations, natural colour experimentation, resin work, incense blends, educational herb kits, and creative formulations that incorporate finely milled plant material. Its bright green colour and smooth texture make it suitable for pigment-style blends, decorative mixtures, and artistic applications. The powder integrates easily into dry formulations where a consistent, plant-derived green powder is desired.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
