Botanical Name: Melissa officinalis

Country of Origin: Egypt

Also Known As: Lemon Balm, Melissa officinalis Herb, Balm Mint

Part Used: Aerial parts (primarily leaves) of Melissa officinalis, cut and sifted

Description: Balm Lemon Herb C/S is produced from the aerial parts of Melissa officinalis, a perennial herb in the mint family native to southern Europe and now widely cultivated across temperate regions. The material consists of dried leaf and stem fragments in shades of green to pale olive, carrying the plant’s naturally mild, lemon-like aroma. Its clean, citrus-forward fragrance and visually uniform character make it a commonly used botanical ingredient in blends, displays, and craft applications.

Melissa officinalis grows as a soft, bushy perennial that typically reaches 60–90 cm in height. It features bright green, serrated leaves and a naturally aromatic profile characteristic of the mint family. When dried, the plant retains much of its pleasant scent and leafy structure, making it well suited for uses that depend on natural colour, aroma, and botanical texture.

Leaves and aerial parts are collected during peak seasonal growth when the plant’s colour and aromatic qualities are most pronounced. The harvested material is cleaned to remove natural field debris, then dried using controlled warm-air or shade-drying methods that help preserve its green tones and recognizable fragrance. Once fully dried, the herb is cut into uniform pieces and sifted to achieve a consistent grade. This produces a stable, clean botanical material suitable for a wide range of applications.

Uses: Balm Lemon Herb C/S is used in herbal infusion blends for flavour appreciation, aromatic craft projects, potpourri, sachet making, and decorative botanical displays. Its natural scent and appealing colour make it suitable for jar blends, mixed dried herb preparations, and visually oriented formulations.

The herb integrates well into educational kits, resin work, and creative projects where dried plant materials are selected for their aroma, appearance, and botanical authenticity.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
