Description: Patchouli Essential Oil is obtained from the leaves of Pogostemon cablin, a perennial aromatic herb belonging to the Lamiaceae family. The plant is native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia and is widely cultivated in warm, humid climates with well-drained soils. Patchouli grows as a bushy, low-growing herb with square stems and broad, oval-shaped leaves that have a soft, slightly textured surface. The leaves are deep green when fresh and emit a strong, distinctive aroma when crushed. The plant thrives during warm seasons with consistent rainfall and reaches full leaf development before flowering.

Harvesting takes place when the plant has produced mature, fully expanded leaves, typically several months after planting. At this stage, the leaves are thick, aromatic, and structurally robust. After harvesting, the leaves are bundled and allowed to partially dry, a step that helps develop the characteristic aroma profile associated with patchouli oil. This resting period is a traditional agricultural practice used to prepare the plant material for distillation without altering its physical structure.

Once properly prepared, the leaves undergo steam distillation. Steam passes through the plant material, releasing aromatic compounds that are then condensed and separated as essential oil. This process yields a thick, amber to dark brown liquid with a dense, smooth consistency. The oil has a rich, earthy aroma with deep, woody and herbaceous notes.

The finished Patchouli Essential Oil is stable and well-suited for formulation due to its concentrated nature and strong aromatic presence. Its texture is heavier than many other essential oils, and it blends easily with a wide range of aromatic ingredients. The oil maintains its characteristic appearance and aroma profile when stored under appropriate conditions, making it a reliable raw material for manufacturing and creative applications.

Uses: Patchouli Essential Oil is widely used in perfumery and fragrance formulation as a base note in blends, incense compositions, and aromatic products. It is commonly incorporated into soaps, candles, cosmetics, lotions, and personal care formulations for its distinctive scent and blending properties. The oil is also used in crafting, DIY projects, and decorative aromatic applications. In manufacturing and formulation settings, it serves as a fragrance component in products where a strong, long-lasting aromatic profile is desired.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
