Description: Grain of Paradise is a perennial herbaceous plant native to West Africa, growing 2–3 metres tall with robust leafy stems and large green lance-shaped leaves. The plant produces small reddish-purple flowers, followed by clusters of oblong fruits containing multiple aromatic seeds. The seeds, known for their warm, peppery flavour, are harvested when the fruit matures and begins to dry naturally on the plant.
After harvesting, the seeds are extracted from the dried fruit capsules, cleaned to remove husks and debris, and naturally dried to preserve colour, aroma, and flavour. In whole form, the seeds are small, reddish-brown to dark brown, with a wrinkled surface and hard texture, retaining the characteristic aroma of the plant.
The whole seeds are sorted and graded to ensure uniform size and quality. This processing preserves the natural appearance and aromatic profile, providing a visually consistent and botanically authentic ingredient suitable for various culinary and herbal applications.
Uses: Grain of Paradise Whole is used in spice blends, seasoning mixes, herbal infusions, culinary preparations, decorative herb displays, and craft projects. Its distinct peppery aroma and small, wrinkled seeds make it suitable for grinding fresh into recipes, blending with other spices, or adding visual and aromatic appeal to herbal mixes and traditional-style botanical preparations.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
