Also Known As: Cuminum cyminum Seeds, Whole Jeera, Cumin Whole Seeds

Part Used: Dried seeds of Cuminum cyminum

Description: Cumin Seeds are harvested from the mature seed heads of Cuminum cyminum, an annual herb native to the Mediterranean region and western Asia and now cultivated in warm climates worldwide. The plant produces narrow, elongated seeds with a light brown to greenish-brown colour and a distinctive ridged surface. Seeds are collected when fully developed and naturally dried in the field.

After harvesting, the seeds are cleaned to remove stems, chaff, and field debris. They are then further dried under controlled conditions to ensure low moisture content and stable storage quality. This careful handling preserves the natural shape, surface texture, and uniform appearance of the seeds.

The finished whole cumin seeds are firm, dry, and evenly sized, with a free-flowing consistency that makes them easy to measure, blend, or grind as needed. Their intact form maintains the botanical identity of the spice and supports long-term storage.

Uses: Whole Cumin Seeds are used in culinary applications such as tempering in oils, seasoning soups, stews, curries, rice dishes, marinades, baked goods, and spice blends. They are also suitable for beverage infusions, dry roasting for spice preparations, and educational culinary kits where whole seed form is preferred for flavour development and visual identification.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
