Botanical Name: Ocimum basilicum

Country of Origin: India

Also Known As: Ground Basil, Ocimum basilicum Leaf Powder

Part Used: Dried leaves of Ocimum basilicum, finely milled

Description: Basil Ground is produced from the dried leaves of Ocimum basilicum, an aromatic annual herb cultivated in warm and temperate regions. The leaves are dried and milled into a fine, green powder with a natural herbal aroma and flavour typical of basil. This smooth, even texture allows the herb to blend easily into culinary mixtures, seasoning formulas, and craft applications where a uniform botanical powder is preferred.

Ocimum basilicum forms broad green leaves on branching stems and produces small white flowers during its growing cycle. The leaves are harvested during peak growth, when their colour and natural aromatic qualities are at their strongest. Once dried, the plant material retains its characteristic herbal notes, making it suitable for kitchen use, educational purposes, and botanical projects requiring a consistent powdered herb.

Fresh leaves are collected, cleaned to remove natural field debris, and dried using controlled warm-air or low-temperature methods to protect colour and reduce moisture content. After drying, the leaves are milled into a fine powder and sifted to ensure uniformity.

Uses: Basil Ground is commonly used in seasoning blends, sauces, soups, marinades, rubs, salad dressings, and baking applications where a distributed herbal flavour is desired. Its fine texture makes it suitable for dry mixes and prepared food bases. In crafting and botanical projects, it can be incorporated into natural colour demonstrations, potpourri-style blends, decorative jar displays, and educational herb kits.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
