Description: Sandalwood Powder is prepared from the heartwood of Pterocarpus santalinus, a slow-growing deciduous tree native to southern India. The tree thrives in dry, tropical climates and rocky soils, producing a dense trunk and spreading canopy over many years. As the tree grows, the heartwood gradually forms within the inner core, developing its characteristic deep reddish-brown colour that distinguishes it from the lighter outer sapwood.
Harvesting is performed only on fully grown trees to ensure the heartwood has reached optimal density and colour depth. The heartwood is gently separated from the sapwood and chosen for uniformity, firmness, and natural grain structure. In its raw form, the heartwood is heavy and compact, with a fine, straight grain and subtle natural variations in tone ranging from brick red to deep maroon.
After harvesting, the heartwood is cleaned to remove bark fragments and surface impurities. Drying is carried out using controlled air or low-temperature methods to stabilise moisture while maintaining the wood’s natural colour and texture. Once fully dried, the heartwood is finely milled into a smooth, consistent powder. The grinding process is carefully managed to produce a uniform particle size while preserving the natural characteristics of the wood.
The finished Sandalwood Powder is fine, free-flowing, and visually consistent, displaying a rich red to reddish-brown colour. The powder retains the dense, refined qualities of the heartwood and remains stable during handling and storage. Its finely milled texture allows for easy blending and precise measurement while clearly reflecting the botanical identity of Pterocarpus santalinus.
Uses: Sandalwood Powder is used in cosmetic and personal care formulations such as face packs, masks, soaps, and scrubs where fine botanical powders are needed. It is suitable for incense blends, aromatic preparations, craft projects, and decorative applications. The powder is also used in educational botanical collections and manufacturing processes that require a uniform, finely ground hardwood ingredient.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
