Description: Sandalwood Chips C/S are produced from the heartwood of Pterocarpus santalinus, a slow-growing deciduous tree native to southern India. The tree typically reaches heights of 8–15 metres and produces a dense trunk with a spreading crown. It grows in dry, rocky terrain and tropical climates, where distinct seasonal changes influence its growth cycle. The heartwood forms gradually over many years, developing its characteristic deep reddish-brown colour as the tree matures.

Harvesting is done only on fully grown trees, as the heartwood requires extended growth time to develop its dense structure and natural colour. The heartwood is clearly distinguishable from the outer sapwood, which is lighter in colour and removed during processing. Once separated, the heartwood is cut into chips of varied but controlled size, revealing a fine-grained surface with natural colour variation ranging from brick red to dark maroon tones.

Following cutting, the wood chips are gently cleaned to remove dust, bark residue, and loose fibres. Drying is carried out using controlled air or low-temperature methods to stabilise moisture content while maintaining the natural density, colour depth, and grain structure of the wood. The chips are then cut and sifted to achieve consistent sizing and to eliminate excess fines, resulting in a uniform and free-flowing product.

The finished Sandalwood Chips C/S consist of firm, dense wood fragments with visible grain patterns and a naturally rich red hue. The chips retain their structural integrity during handling and storage, offering visual uniformity and durability. The cut-and-sifted format ensures ease of use while maintaining the distinctive botanical identity and natural characteristics of Pterocarpus santalinus heartwood.

Uses: Sandalwood Chips C/S are used in aromatic blends, incense formulations, potpourri, and fragrance-based applications where visible wood pieces are needed. They are suitable for decorative displays, craft projects, and educational botanical collections illustrating hardwood structure and tree maturation. The chips are also used in cosmetic formulations and manufacturing processes that require identifiable, uniform red sandalwood wood material.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
