French Name: Fleur d’Oranger
Also Known As: Sweet Orange Blossom
Part Used: Dried flower blossoms of Citrus sinensis
Description: Orange Flower consists of the blossoms of Citrus sinensis, commonly known as the sweet orange, an evergreen tree belonging to the Rutaceae family. This species is widely cultivated in subtropical and Mediterranean climates where warm temperatures, seasonal rainfall, and well-drained soils support consistent growth. The tree develops a rounded canopy with glossy green leaves and produces fragrant white flowers prior to fruit formation. Blossoms typically appear singly or in small clusters along the branches during the flowering season.
The flowers are harvested at full bloom, when the petals are fully opened and display their characteristic white colour and delicate structure. Harvesting is timed to ensure the blossoms are fresh and intact, as this stage provides the desired visual and aromatic qualities. After collection, the flowers are carefully cleaned to remove stems, leaves, and any field debris while preserving the natural form of the petals.
Following cleaning, the blossoms are dried using controlled air-drying or low-temperature drying methods. This process gradually removes moisture while maintaining the flower’s shape and pale coloration. Once dried, the flowers become lightweight with a dry, papery texture. The finished material has a uniform appearance and a naturally aromatic floral profile typical of sweet orange blossoms. The product is stable and suitable for storage, blending, and further formulation
Uses: Orange Flower is used in culinary applications such as flavouring syrups, desserts, baked goods, and confectionery products, either directly or through infusion. It is also suitable for preparing tea-style infusions by steeping the dried flowers in hot water for aromatic beverages. In cosmetic and personal care formulation, dried orange flowers may be incorporated into soaps, bath products, lotions, and decorative skincare items. Additional uses include crafting projects, potpourri blends, visual displays, and educational or botanical reference collections focused on citrus plants and floral materials.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
