Description: Oatstraw is the aerial portion of the oat plant, a hardy annual grass native to Europe and widely cultivated in temperate regions worldwide. The plant typically grows 0.5–1.5 metres tall with slender, hollow stems, lance-shaped green leaves, and small flowering spikes that produce oat grains. Stems and leaves are harvested during the flowering stage when they are fully developed to ensure maximum retention of colour, texture, and structural integrity before processing.

Fresh oatstraw is light to medium green, fibrous, and flexible, with a mild grassy aroma. The stems are hollow while the leaves are flat and lance-shaped with visible veins. After harvesting, the aerial parts are thoroughly cleaned to remove dust, debris, and coarse stems. Controlled low-temperature drying preserves the natural green colour, fibrous texture, and visible botanical features, while preventing brittleness or discoloration.
