English Name: Nettle Leaves Tea

French Name: Thé de Feuilles d’Ortie

Also Known As: Stinging Nettle Tea, Urtica Tea, Nettle Herbal Tea, Urtica Leaf Tea

Part Used: Leaves of Urtica dioica

Description: Nettle Leaves Tea is a loose-leaf herbal infusion made from the dried leaves of Urtica dioica, a perennial herb native to Europe, Asia, North America, and North Africa. The plant typically grows between 1 to 2 meters in height with upright stems, dark green serrated leaves, and small inconspicuous flowers that bloom in late spring to summer. Nettle is a hardy perennial, regenerating from its root system each year, with leaves harvested during the growing season when they are young, tender, and vibrant. Harvesting is typically done before flowering to ensure the leaves are mild in flavor and retain their delicate aroma and texture.

After harvesting, the nettle leaves are carefully cleaned and gently dried under controlled conditions to preserve their natural green color, aroma, and subtle earthy flavor. Minimal processing is used to maintain the leaves’ natural characteristics. When brewed, Nettle Leaves Tea produces a light green to pale yellow infusion with a fresh, herbaceous aroma and a smooth, slightly vegetal flavor that is naturally clean and refreshing.

Uses: Nettle Leaves Tea can be enjoyed hot or cold. For hot tea, add one teaspoon of dried leaves to a cup of hot water and steep for 5 to 10 minutes, adjusting steeping time according to taste. For iced tea, brew a stronger infusion, allow it to cool, and serve over ice. Nettle leaves can also be cold-brewed by steeping them in cool water in the refrigerator for several hours, producing a smooth, mild, and refreshing herbal drink.

Nettle Leaves Tea pairs well with other herbs such as peppermint, lemon balm, chamomile, or raspberry leaves to add gentle layers of aroma and flavor without overpowering the base tea. Light natural sweeteners like honey or agave may be added according to taste. The brewed infusion can also serve as a base for herbal blends or culinary beverages where a mild herbal note is desired. Its smooth, clean, and naturally refreshing character makes it suitable for everyday enjoyment, calming tea rituals, or as part of an herbal tea collection.

Storage: In a cool, dry space, sealed against the elements as much as possible.
