Description: Menthol crystals are a naturally occurring compound obtained from the essential oil of peppermint (Mentha arvensis), a fast-growing perennial herb native to Europe and Asia. The plant grows 30–90 cm tall with square stems, aromatic dark green leaves, and small lilac flowers during the summer months. The essential oil is extracted from mature leaves and stems during peak growth to preserve its natural cooling aroma and crystalline character.
The crystals are colourless to white, solid, and translucent, often forming needle-like or granular structures. They have a strong, characteristic minty aroma and a cooling sensory property. The purified crystals maintain their natural shape, appearance, and purity, making them suitable for blending, formulation, and decorative applications where menthol’s natural characteristics are desired.
Menthol crystals are obtained by steam-distilling the essential oil from the leaves of peppermint, followed by cooling and crystallization under controlled conditions.
