Botanical Name: Ascophyllum nodosum

Country of Origin: Canada

English Name: Kelp Atlantic Powder (Seaweed Powder)

French Name: Poudre de Varech de l’Atlantique

Also Known As: Atlantic Kelp Powder, Dried Kelp Powder, Seaweed Powder

Part Used: Dried fronds of Ascophyllum nodosum

Description: Atlantic kelp is a large brown seaweed that grows naturally along the cold coastal waters of the North Atlantic Ocean, attaching to rocky shorelines in the intertidal zone. The plant forms long, strap-like fronds with a smooth surface and air-filled bladders, and can reach lengths of over 1 metre. Harvesting takes place during peak growth seasons to retain the natural colour, structure, and botanical character of the seaweed.

The fronds have a leathery texture and a deep brown to olive-green colour. When dried, the seaweed retains its identifiable surface features and marine appearance, making it suitable for milling into a fine, uniform powder that blends easily with other dry ingredients. The dried material maintains its botanical integrity while offering a convenient powdered form for a wide range of applications.

After harvesting, the seaweed is rinsed to remove sand, salt, and marine debris, then dried using controlled low-temperature methods to preserve colour and texture. Once fully dried, the fronds are milled into a fine powder and sieved to remove coarse particles, resulting in a clean, free-flowing ingredient suitable for blending, storage, and multiple applications.

Uses: Kelp Atlantic Powder is used in culinary recipes, seasoning blends, tea-style infusions, herbal and botanical blends, craft projects, cosmetic formulations, decorative displays, and educational plant collections. Its fine texture allows it to mix evenly into dry blends and creative preparations where natural seaweed flavour and appearance are desired.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
