Description: Horsetail, also known as Shavegrass, is a perennial, non-flowering plant native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It typically grows in moist soils along riverbanks, meadows, and wetlands, forming dense clumps of hollow, jointed stems. The plant reaches 30–100 cm in height and has a unique segmented, brush-like appearance. Horsetail spreads through underground rhizomes, producing slender, green, reed-like stems above ground, which are harvested for their structural and visual qualities.
The aerial stems are smooth, hollow, and ridged, with a slightly rough texture due to fine silica deposits. Stems grow upright in dense clusters, giving the plant a grass-like appearance. Harvesting is performed during the active growing season when stems are fully developed but still flexible. After drying, the stems retain their segmented structure and natural greenish colour, making them ideal for botanical applications where the form of the plant is desirable.
After harvesting, the stems are cleaned to remove dirt, debris, and extraneous material. They are then dried using controlled low-temperature methods to maintain natural colour and texture. Once dried, the stems are cut and sifted into uniform pieces, and any fines or broken fragments are removed. The result is a clean, free-flowing botanical ingredient suitable for blending, storage, and various creative or decorative applications.
Uses: Horsetail C/S is used in tea-style infusions, herbal and botanical blends, flavouring preparations, culinary recipes, craft projects, cosmetic formulations, decorative displays, and educational herb collections. Its identifiable segmented stems make it suitable for infused preparations, botanical mixtures, and creative projects where the natural form of the plant is desired.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
