Description: Horsetail, also called Shavegrass, is a perennial, non-flowering plant native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It grows in moist soils along riverbanks, meadows, and wetlands, forming dense clusters of hollow, jointed stems. The plant typically reaches 30–100 cm in height and spreads through underground rhizomes. Its upright, segmented stems have a distinctive brush-like appearance, making it visually recognizable and suitable for botanical processing.
The aerial stems are hollow, ridged, and slightly rough in texture due to natural silica deposits. Stems grow in dense, upright clusters and are harvested during the active growing season when fully developed but still flexible. Once harvested, the stems retain their natural greenish colour and segmented structure, providing a clear botanical character that is maintained through drying and milling.
After harvesting, the stems are cleaned to remove dirt, debris, and extraneous material. They are then dried using controlled low-temperature methods to preserve natural colour and texture. The dried material is milled into a fine, uniform powder and sorted to remove coarse fragments, resulting in a clean, free-flowing ingredient suitable for multiple applications.
Uses: Horsetail Powder is used in tea-style infusions, herbal and botanical blends, flavouring preparations, culinary recipes, craft projects, cosmetic formulations, decorative displays, and educational herb collections. Its fine texture allows it to blend easily while retaining the natural botanical character of the plant, making it ideal for infusions, mixtures, and creative applications where powdered form is preferred.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
