Description: Horny Goat Weed is a perennial herb native to China and other regions of East Asia. It grows in low, spreading clumps with heart-shaped, leathery leaves and delicate flowers that can range in colour from yellow to purple. The plant typically reaches 15–50 cm in height and can grow year-round in mild climates. Its dense foliage and slender stems provide a textured, layered appearance, while the mature leaves are flexible yet slightly leathery, making them suitable for processing into powder.
The aerial parts are harvested when the leaves are mature and tender, usually during the late spring to early autumn growing season. The plant material is carefully cleaned to remove dirt, debris, and excess stalks. Once harvested, the leaves and stems are prepared for drying, maintaining their natural colour and texture before being processed into a fine, uniform powder.
The dried material is then milled into powder, ensuring a consistent texture while retaining visible leaf characteristics in the fine form. The powder is sorted to remove coarse fragments or fines that do not meet the required specification, resulting in a clean, free-flowing botanical ingredient suitable for a variety of applications.
