Part Used: Dried petals (calyces) of Hibiscus sabdariffa

Description: Hibiscus, commonly known as Roselle, is a tropical annual shrub native to West Africa and widely cultivated in Egypt and other warm regions. The plant grows 1–2 metres tall with slender stems and lance-shaped green leaves. It produces bright red, fleshy calyces that surround small flowers. These calyces are harvested at full maturity to preserve their vibrant colour, natural shape, and firm, slightly fleshy texture.

The calyces are thick, slightly ribbed, and grow in clusters along the stems. Harvesting occurs during peak maturity to retain the deep red colour and structural integrity. After drying, the petals maintain their vivid colour and natural botanical character, making them suitable for milling into a fine, uniform powder. The powder retains the identifiable features of the plant while offering a convenient form for blending and culinary use.

After harvesting, the calyces are cleaned to remove stems, dust, and extraneous material. They are then dried using controlled low-temperature methods to preserve colour and texture. Once dried, the material is milled into a fine, uniform powder and sieved to remove any coarse fragments, resulting in a clean, free-flowing ingredient suitable for blending, storage, and multiple applications.

Uses: Hibiscus Powder is used in tea-style infusions, herbal and botanical blends, beverage bases, culinary recipes, natural colouring projects, craft work, cosmetic formulations, decorative displays, and educational herb collections. Its fine texture allows it to blend easily while maintaining the vibrant colour and botanical character of the plant, making it ideal for infusions, culinary preparations, potpourri-style products, and creative applications.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
