Description: Hibiscus, commonly known as Roselle, is a tropical annual shrub native to West Africa and widely cultivated in Egypt and other warm regions. The plant grows 1–2 metres tall with slender stems and lance-shaped green leaves. During the flowering season, it produces bright red, fleshy calyces that surround the small flowers. These calyces are harvested when fully mature to capture their deep red colour, natural shape, and firm, slightly fleshy texture.
The calyces are thick yet flexible, with a slightly ribbed surface, giving them a distinctive botanical appearance. They grow clustered along the stems and retain their vibrant colour and structure when dried. Harvesting is done carefully to maintain the integrity of each piece, ensuring uniformity in size and shape. The dried petals of H. sabdariffa are visually striking and suitable for cutting and sifting, making them ideal for culinary, decorative, and blending applications.
After harvesting, the calyces are cleaned to remove stems, dust, and extraneous material. They are then dried under controlled low-temperature conditions to preserve their deep red colour and firm texture. Once dried, the petals are cut and sifted into uniform pieces, with broken fragments removed. The resulting product is a clean, free-flowing botanical ingredient suitable for blending, storage, and various applications.
Uses: Hibiscus Flower Petals are used in tea-style infusions, herbal and botanical blends, beverage bases, culinary recipes, natural colouring projects, craft work, decorative displays, cosmetic formulations, and educational herb collections. Their vibrant red colour and firm texture make them ideal for infusions, floral mixtures, culinary preparations, potpourri-style products, and creative applications where visual appeal and botanical authenticity are desired.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
