Description: Five Finger Grass C/S is prepared from the aerial parts of Potentilla reptans, a low-growing perennial plant native to Europe and western Asia and now found in temperate regions worldwide. The plant typically spreads close to the ground with creeping stems that root at the nodes and grow 10–30 cm in height. Its distinctive palm-shaped leaves are divided into five narrow leaflets, giving rise to the common name “five finger grass,” and it produces small, bright yellow flowers during late spring through summer.
The plant thrives in meadows, lawns, roadsides, and open grassy areas with moderate sunlight and moist soil. The leaves are thin yet firm with a lightly textured surface, while the trailing stems are flexible and green to reddish in colour. Harvesting takes place during the flowering season when the foliage is at its fullest and most visually consistent, ensuring a balanced mix of leaf, stem, and flower material.
After harvesting, the aerial parts are cleaned to remove soil and coarse debris, then dried using controlled low-temperature air-drying methods to preserve the natural green tones of the leaves and the yellow hues of the flowers. Once dried, the material is cut and sifted into uniform pieces containing leaf fragments, fine stems, and small flower parts, resulting in a stable, visually appealing botanical ingredient suitable for many applications.
Uses: Five Finger Grass C/S is used in tea-style infusions, herbal beverage blends, botanical craft projects, decorative herb displays, educational herb kits, potpourri-style mixes, and creative applications where dried leafy and floral plant material is desired for texture, colour, and natural botanical presentation.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container.
