Botanical Name: Harpagophytum procumbens

Country of Origin: southern Africa

English Name: Devil’s Claw Root Powder

French Name: Poudre de Racine de Griffe du Diable

Also Known As: Harpagophytum procumbens Powder, Ground Devil’s Claw Root, Devil’s Claw Herb Powder

Part Used: Ground dried secondary storage roots of Harpagophytum procumbens

Description: Devil’s Claw Root Powder is produced from the dried secondary storage roots of Harpagophytum procumbens, a perennial plant native to the arid regions of southern Africa. The plant develops elongated, tuber-like roots that are harvested at full maturity to ensure consistent colour, density, and botanical quality prior to processing.

After harvesting, the roots are carefully washed to remove soil and surface impurities, then sliced into manageable sections. These root pieces are dried using controlled air-drying or low-temperature methods to reduce moisture while preserving the natural tan to brown colour and fibrous internal structure of the material.

Once fully dried, the roots are finely milled into a smooth, uniform powder. The finished devil’s claw root powder is light to medium brown in colour, free-flowing, and finely textured, making it easy to blend and measure while retaining the natural characteristics of the root.

Uses: Devil’s Claw Root Powder is used in tea-style infusions, herbal beverage blends, culinary spice mixes, botanical craft projects, and educational herb kits. It is also suitable for cosmetic formulations, natural dye work, bath products, and creative applications where finely ground root material is desired for texture, colour, and botanical presentation.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
