Description: Calamus Root C/S is produced from the dried rhizomes of Acorus calamus, a semi-aquatic perennial plant commonly found in marshes, riverbanks, and wetlands across Asia, Europe, and North America. The plant grows as tall, reed-like clumps reaching 1–1.5 meters in height, with sword-shaped leaves and aromatic underground rhizomes. The rhizomes are harvested when mature, cleaned to remove natural soil residue, and dried to preserve their firm structure and light brown colour.
Acorus calamus rhizomes are thick, jointed, and fibrous, extending horizontally beneath the soil surface. When processed into cut-and-sifted form, the pieces retain their natural texture and distinctive plant aroma. The dried root fragments provide an easily recognizable botanical appearance, with visible fibre patterns and a sturdy structure that makes them suitable for craft and display applications. The plant’s long, upright foliage and wetland growth habit contribute to the characteristic density and shape of its rhizomes.
During production, the harvested rhizomes undergo thorough washing to remove field residue, followed by controlled drying using warm-air or shade-drying methods to maintain their structural integrity. Once dried, the material is mechanically cut into smaller segments and sifted for uniformity. This method ensures a clean botanical material with well-defined texture and natural visual characteristics, suitable for creative and formulation uses.
Uses: Calamus Root C/S is used in botanical craft projects, decorative jar displays, resin art, incense-style blends, potpourri-style mixtures, and educational herb kits. Its firm, fibrous pieces add texture and structural detail to natural arrangements, themed craft work, and mixed botanical preparations. The recognizable appearance of calamus rhizome makes it useful in projects requiring intact plant fragments with distinct botanical features.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
