Botanical Name: Hypercium Perforatum

Origin: Bulgaria

English Name: St. John’s Wort C/S

French Name: Millepertuis Coupé

Also Known As: Cut and Sifted St John’s Wort, Hypericum Herb, Tipton Weed

Part Used: Aerial parts (leaves, stems, and flowering tops) of Hypericum perforatum

Description: St. John’s Wort C/S is prepared from the aerial parts of Hypericum perforatum, a perennial flowering herb native to Europe and Western Asia and now naturalised in many temperate regions worldwide. The plant typically grows between 30 and 90 centimetres tall, producing upright, slender stems lined with small oval green leaves that appear translucent when held to light due to tiny natural oil glands. From early summer through mid-summer, bright yellow flowers bloom in clustered tops, each flower featuring five petals and prominent golden stamens. Harvesting is carried out during peak flowering when leaf colour and floral development are at their fullest.

Once collected, the herb is carefully cleaned to remove dust and natural debris while preserving intact leaves and flowering tops. Drying is performed using controlled air or low-temperature methods to maintain the plant’s natural green colour and delicate yellow floral elements. After drying, the material is cut and sifted into uniform fragments, producing a lightweight, free-flowing blend with visible leaves, thin stems, and scattered flower pieces. This processing preserves the botanical identity of Hypericum perforatum while providing consistent size and texture.

The finished St. John’s Wort C/S displays a natural mix of green leaf fragments, slender stems, and yellow floral particles. The texture is light and slightly fibrous, with clearly visible veins and natural plant structure. The cut and sifted format allows for easy handling, accurate measurement, and uniform blending, making it suitable for applications requiring identifiable dried aerial plant material.

This product remains stable during storage, retaining its natural appearance and structure over time. The uniform cut supports consistent portioning and blending while preserving the visual character of the original plant.

Uses: St. John’s Wort C/S is commonly used in tea-style infusions and botanical blends where visible aerial herb pieces are preferred for gradual steeping and visual appeal. The herb is also suitable for cosmetic and bath formulations, botanical sachets, craft projects, and decorative displays. It is frequently included in educational botanical collections to illustrate flowering patterns, leaf structure, and seasonal growth cycles. The cut and sifted format allows for precise measuring, easy blending with other botanicals, and versatile use in both home and professional settings, offering a naturally textured dried herb with consistent quality and appearance.

Storage: In a cool, dry place.
