Botanical name: Andropogon citratus

Country of origin: South India

English Name: Lemongrass Oil

French Name: Huile Essentielle de Citronnelle

Also Known As: Cymbopogon Oil, Lemongrass Oil, Essential Oil of Andropogon citratus

Part Used: Leaves and stalks of Andropogon citratus

Description: Lemongrass is a tall, perennial grass native to tropical Asia, typically growing 1–2 metres tall with long, slender, bright green leaves and fibrous stalks. The plant produces small clusters of inconspicuous flowers along the upper stems. The leaves and stalks are harvested when fully mature to retain natural colour, texture, and essential oil content.

The fibrous stalks and slender leaves contain oil-rich glands, which give the plant its characteristic citrus aroma. After harvesting, the plant material retains its natural structure and fragrance, making it suitable for extraction of essential oil through steam distillation.

Lemongrass oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and stalks, yielding a clear to pale yellow oil with a fresh, lemon-like aroma. The oil is filtered to remove any plant residues, producing a concentrated botanical ingredient suitable for blending, cosmetic formulations, and aromatic applications.

Uses: Lemongrass Oil is used in cosmetic formulations, aromatherapy diffusers, personal care products, craft projects, fragrance blends, and educational botanical collections. Its fresh citrus aroma makes it suitable for blending into perfumes, scented oils, soaps, and creative applications where natural lemongrass fragrance is desired.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
