Part Used: Dried aerial parts of Ruscus aculeatus, cut and sifted

Description: Butcher’s Broom C/S is produced from the dried aerial parts of Ruscus aculeatus, a small evergreen shrub native to the Mediterranean region and parts of Europe. The plant forms dense, woody stems with sharp, leaf-like cladodes and small red berries that appear seasonally. Mature shrubs typically grow 30–90 centimetres tall, creating a compact structure that remains visually distinctive after drying.

Ruscus aculeatus develops stiff, upright stems and flattened cladodes that give the plant its recognizable texture. These structures hold their shape well during the drying process, allowing the cut herb to retain visible plant features such as fibrous stem segments and firm leaf-like pieces. This makes Butcher’s Broom C/S suitable for use in decorative botanical applications where natural plant identity and structure are desirable.

The aerial parts are washed to remove external debris and dried using controlled warm-air or shade-drying methods to reduce moisture while preserving the plant’s form. After drying, the herb is mechanically cut and sifted to achieve consistent sizing, producing a clean botanical material with stable texture and appearance suitable for craft and formulation uses.

Uses: Butcher’s Broom C/S is used in botanical craft projects, natural potpourri-style blends, decorative jar arrangements, resin art compositions, and educational herb kits. Its firm, structured plant pieces add texture and definition to nature-themed artwork, pressed-plant displays, and mixed botanical formulations. The distinctive cladodes and woody stems make it practical for creative applications where identifiable and visually structured plant material is preferred.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place in an airtight container. Refrigeration not required.
